Increased Use of Biocides for Fighting the Coronavirus with help from Center for Biocide Chemistries

Biocides & Coronavirus

As the novel coronavirus, COVID 19 increases its threat to world as a whole, we see an increase in methods used to fight this virus. The fighting of this virus is being aided by the use of the biocides and is getting increased help from the Center for Biocide Control. People and businesses are taking additional measures to mitigate the spread and stop it at its source.

The EPA does its part in evaluating these biocides, also known as “antimicrobials”, for their efficacy in fighting viral pathogens. Typically, in the industrial space, these biocides are used to fight bacteria, yeast and mold growing in pipelines, water treatment towers and coolers but are increasingly being used to fight the coronavirus. As this virus spreads, it is becoming difficult to evaluate all pathogens and their life against the use of an antimicrobial. The CBC (Center for Biocide Chemistries) has worked on this in the past and provided its research to the Environmental Protection Agency in order to speed up the process of evaluating various antimicrobials and their positive effect on fighting viral pathogens like the coronavirus.
